A Miniature Horse Adventure

About Us
Haven Lee Farm was originally established in 1970 by Tom's parents on 170 acres near Halltown, Missouri. Dad and Mom Lee and a gang of children raised cows, chickens, pigs, and of course, big horses. Memories of Dad sitting on "Lady" (an 18 hand thoroughbred) while the boys worked is a pleasant memory.
Viola was raised on an 80 acre farm near Peculiar, Missouri. Vivid memories of a tree in the middle of the road bring warm memories. Viola loved horses and was raised astride a Belgian while her Dad plowed near the garden. She also had a Shetland when she was young and in her teens trained American Saddle bred horses.
We originally started out on 10 acres near Republic, Missouri, raising Holstein steers for market. Along came a neighbor with a miniature stallion, and we were both hooked. Special thanks to Ed and Laura Stevens for quickly introducing us to the wonderful new world of miniature horses.
In 1999, after 21 years in the Navy, then a ten year hiatus without the sea was too much, and Tom needed to be close to a body of water bigger than a stock tank, so we relocated to Table Rock Lake near Shell Knob.
1999 also brought exceptional honors to Viola, when (with special thanks to Chuck and Mary Sheppard of 7S Miniatures), Viola took Champion at the AMHA Central Regional Show in the Beginner Single Pleasure Driving Class. Making this even more rewarding was having both daughters and all three grandchildren in attendance while she drove.
Viola's skill at training the little ones has resulted in three of our horses taking Show Championships - Two Grand Championships and one Reserve Championship. The greatest pride came when our 5 year old granddaughter showed Misty Dawn, a 5 month old filly, at the American Spotted Horse Show in Carthage, Missouri in June of 2003, and ran away with a Grand Championship in the Youth Showmanship, Mare/Gelding, 34" and under, age 17 and under class.
The strong desire to drive a "team" has taken us down an ever expanding road. Our pride and joy is a "Springfield Wagon". With the assistance of Louis Allen, Springfield Wagon Company, Springfield, Missouri, we were able to build a one half scale Springfield Wagon that has taken top honors every time we take it out.
While Viola is training the babies to stand still, and the rest to take a harness, Tom has developed an art a building wagons in miniature. He custom builds depending on the size of the horse that will pull the wagon, and if it will be pulled with a single horse or team. We have also found an excellent source for show harnesses (single and team, buggy and draft) that is made by the Amish with pride, and won't cost an arm and a leg. Complete wagon and harness packages are available for sale.
We strive to meet the goal of our motto,
"A Miniature Horse Adventure".
Everyday brings more laughs, aches and pains, but also tears of joy as we take the miniature horse legacy to higher levels, by not just showing our stock, but by participating in parades, history events, and trade shows in the local four state area. Watching the smile on a child that was able to "pet" a horse and give it a big hug without fear, is what this endeavor is all about.
